Frequently Asked Questions

  • A neuropsychological evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning using standardized tests.

It helps identify conditions affecting the brain and informs treatment, safety, and legal or occupational decisions.

Neuropsychological evaluations help clarify diagnosis, determine cognitive strengths and weaknesses, track changes over time, and make recommendations for treatment, work, school, or daily functioning.

  • Dr. Bayer does not accept insurance, as doing so allows her to offer more flexible, comprehensive care. Insurance often imposes limitations that can compromise the quality of neuropsychological evaluations. This private-pay model ensures that patients receive the time and attention they deserve.

In some cases, a “superbill” (an itemized receipt) can be provided upon request. You may be able to submit this to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement.

  • This will vary greatly, depending on the nature of the evaluation (e.g., clinical vs. forensic). Please contact the office for pricing.

For evaluations that may be deemed medically necessary, a detailed invoice and support documents (ie “superbill”) for insurance or third-party submission may be available upon request. Please note that not all evaluations are considered medically necessary, and therefore are not covered by health insurance (e.g., FAA, NFL evaluations, attorney referrals).

  • Cash, Check, and Zelle are payment options without any associated fees.

Cards with contactless payment have an additional 2.6% fee.

Cards requiring manual entry have an additional 3.5% fee

  • A board-certified neuropsychologist is someone that has completed advanced training and demonstrated competency in the specialty of clinical neuropsychology. This process involves rigorous evaluation by peers (experts in neuropsychology), written and oral examinations, and is considered the highest level of specialization in the field.

While there were many reasons Dr. Bayer made the decision to pursue board certification, her primary motivating factor was to ensure her clients (and the public more generally) receives services from qualified, competent, and ethical professionals — especially when lives, careers, or legal outcomes are on the line.

  • The process includes:

    • A clinical interview (often with a family member)

    • Paper-and-pencil and/or computerized testing

    • Review of relevant records (medical, academic, etc)

    • A detailed written report for you and/or the referral source

Dr. Bayer understands that doctor visits can sometimes be stressful or even a little intimidating. She does her very best to make the evaluation process as welcoming and comfortable as possible.

  • Full evaluations typically take 3 to 7+ hours, with breaks as needed. The length of the appointment will depend on the type of evaluation requested and referral question/s.

Dr. Bayer understands and respects the fact that each person has different cognitive strengths and weaknesses, and that every person works at a different pace. The most important thing is that Dr. Bayer completes the necessary testing to answer the questions that you (or other parties) seek.

  • Depending on the evaluation, interviews and feedback sessions may be conducted via telehealth (video or telephone) on HIPAA-compliant platforms. All neuropsychological testing must be completed in-person.

  • You're welcome to bring someone with you to your appointment if you'd like. Many people choose to bring a spouse, parent, sibling, close friend, or other trusted support person. Having an additional perspective during the interview can help Dr. Bayer better understand your background and answer your questions more thoroughly.
